بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
The story of humanity as Islam tells it, from Adam through the nations, the prophets of Bani Isra'il and the followers of 'Isa, to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his Ummah. Tap a bubble to bring its children forward; earlier generations recede into the band above.
Dates before Musa are not given in the Qur'an or sound hadith; ranges shown for later eras are approximate estimates and scholars differ on them. Tap any name to open it in the lineage.
Islam is the religion of every prophet from Adam onward, so the history of Bani Isra'il, the followers of 'Isa, and every nation descended from Nuh is part of this story. The Qur'an tells that history but rarely gives genealogies. Most names between prophets come from hadith and from historians such as al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir, who drew partly on the records of the People of the Book. They followed the Prophet's ﷺ guidance: narrate from Bani Isra'il, there is no harm (al-Bukhari), but neither confirm nor deny what is not verified (al-Bukhari). Each entry is labelled with its source so the Qur'anic material stands apart, and groups drawn with a dashed outline gather people by era rather than by parent. Allah knows best.
